Join Out Loud Chorus as Our Next Artistic Director!
Out Loud Chorus (OLC) is seeking a passionate and dynamic Artistic Director to lead our LGBTQ+ community chorus into its next chapter of our nearly 30-year journey. We are a non-auditioned, SATB chorus of ~125 singers that welcomes all voices and celebrates diversity through music. Our performances uplift, educate, and foster a strong sense of belonging, both within our choir and in the broader community.
About the Role
As Artistic Director, you will shape the artistic vision of OLC, leading rehearsals and performances that inspire and engage. You’ll work closely with our Board, collaborative pianist, and committees to plan and execute two major concerts per year, as well as community performances. This is a part-time, salaried position with hours mainly in the evenings and on weekends.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead rehearsals and conduct performances, ensuring an engaging and educational experience for singers of all levels and music-reading abilities.
- Select concert themes and repertoire in collaboration with our Music Selection Committee.
- Audition and select members for solos and ensembles in each concert
- Coach chorus on vocal skills and performance techniques.
- Support chorus operations, including attending monthly Board meetings, contributing to grant applications, and assisting with determining long-range artistic goals.
- Engage with the community through outreach performances and collaborations with GALA Choruses and other local groups.
What We’re Looking For
- Choral conducting experience (minimum 5–6 years) or a degree in music with an emphasis in choral conducting.
- Experience working with community-based choirs and singers of varying skill levels. Experience working with transgender singers is a plus.
- While a classical approach to some of our music is suitable, a knowledge and excitement of musical theater/pop ensemble technique is highly encouraged
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to foster an inclusive, enthusiastic, and supportive environment.
- A commitment to LGBTQ+ visibility and inclusion through music and a desire to uplift marginalized voices within the LGBTQ+ community through song selection.
- Ability to inspire singers, manage rehearsals effectively, and bring concerts to life with engaging stage presence.
- Ability to handle feedback in a positive and constructive way
- Flexibility in working with a diverse group of personalities and backgrounds, including with volunteer staff
